Project Narrative
Loveless Porter Architects engaged Rich Hostelley Architect to reimagine a mid-20th century dairy barn into a vibrant, multi-purpose events venue—one that honors its agricultural heritage while embracing a new life as a contemporary gathering space.
Serving as Design Consultant, Rich played a pivotal role in guiding the project through a complex adaptive reuse process that demanded both architectural sensitivity and technical precision. Leveraging decades of experience in repositioning existing structures, he contributed across all phases of design—from early concept development and spatial planning through detailed documentation and construction coordination.
Rather than approaching the barn as a structure to be stripped and rebuilt, the team recognized its inherent character as the foundation for design. The existing arched timber framing became the defining architectural feature, anchoring the interior experience and informing the overall design strategy. Interventions were carefully calibrated to enhance functionality—supporting weddings, performances, and community events—while preserving the authenticity and craftsmanship of the original structure.
In close collaboration with the Brambleton Project Management Team, the design balances old and new with intention and clarity. Contemporary systems and programmatic needs are seamlessly integrated within the historic framework, resulting in a space that feels both timeless and renewed.
The completed project stands as a testament to thoughtful adaptive reuse—where preservation, innovation, and collaboration converge to transform a once utilitarian structure into a meaningful destination for community and celebration.
