This project transforms a modest 1,800-square-foot brick home dating to the 1940s into a thoughtfully expanded 3,800-square-foot Craftsman-style residence - reimagined for contemporary living while preserving the character and scale of the original structure.
The design strategy focused on a seamless integration of old and new. A carefully proportioned two-story addition extends the home’s footprint and redefines its spatial organization, while maintaining a balanced relationship with the existing massing. The result is a cohesive architectural composition that feels both rooted in its origins and confidently renewed.
Exterior enhancements introduce defining elements of the Craftsman vernacular, including deep roof overhangs with exposed rafter tails, tapered columns set on stone piers, shake siding accents, and a welcoming covered front porch. A palette of natural materials—wood and brick—was selected to complement the original masonry, reinforcing a sense of authenticity and continuity within the surrounding context.
The interior has been fully reprogrammed to support modern family life. The main level features an open-concept kitchen, dining, and living environment, designed to maximize natural light and connection between spaces. Upstairs, a new primary suite, additional bedrooms, and flexible spaces for work and study provide both comfort and adaptability. Throughout the home, custom millwork, built-ins, and warm wood finishes reflect a commitment to craftsmanship and detail.
This transformation demonstrates a balanced approach to residential design - where preservation, expansion, and craftsmanship converge to create a home that is both timeless and tailored to contemporary living.
