Project Narrative
RH+ARCH’s design vision is rooted in a simple yet powerful image—children “fishing” with nets along the water’s edge. This moment of play and discovery became the catalyst for a deeper architectural narrative tied to place, culture, and connection.
Inspired by the indigenous lifeways of the York River, the design draws from the act of casting nets, gathering, and living in rhythm with the water. These ideas are translated into a building that expresses movement, craft, and community.
Curved glazing extends outward like cast nets, capturing light and views while creating a sense of openness. A solid vertical core anchors the composition, grounding the building as circulation and spatial flow move fluidly like the river itself. Lightweight structural elements and material expression evoke the texture and rhythm of woven forms, reinforcing the concept through craft.

At its heart, the project is about gathering—creating spaces that foster connection, reflection, and shared experience. Positioned along the landscape, the building becomes both shelter and storyteller.
The result is a living metaphor—its glass “nets” capturing light and community, anchored by a core that reflects strength, tradition, and place.
